Sadly too many people find they have lost the knack of being without the ‘plugins’ and don’t know how to enjoy the natural sights and sounds around them. Even worse, they aren’t encouraging their chidlden to enjoy them either.

The book on hiking is temporarily on hold while I concentrate on fiction and teaching (and starting an MFA program in the fall), but I’ll get back to the hiking book at some point. Hopefully not too long!

It was blazingly hot, and I was so grateful that my mom insisted we carry so much water. That insistence was born the hard way: she and my Dad once ran out of water when hiking out from Havasu Falls, during their college days.
